My hope for this article is to draw a worth while comparison between the passage in 1 Chron 4:9-10, which is the account of Jabez and his prayer to God and Psalm 61-63 which are psalms of David as he called out to God, seeking His blessings of protection and increased faith and trust.
Psalm 52-54 talks about the evil of man and the steadfast love of God. Chapter 52 talks about the one who boasts of evil and has a tongue of deceit and how God will make an example of him. The last couple of verses are the opposite of the first, instead of boasting in evil he trusts God, instead of using his tongue for destruction he gave thanks to God, recognizing God’s power over his own. Chapter 53 then talks about the fools who say there is no God and about how God looks down from heaven only to find that man has become corrupt and there is none who do good. Chapter 54 goes on to talk about God’s power to save, asking God to hear his prayer, referring to God as his helper and upholder. And in response to that he gives thanks to his deliverer.
